This bakery has higher prices than Quality Foods just down the road.
What few know is they buy their muffins from McDonalds and re-sell them.
They don't even bake them on the premises which is a bit strange for a place
called a 'bakery'. The atmosphere where the bakery is located is enticing however as it is in a rustic log-built islandy building.
This place is fabulous! Their Danish specialties are to die for. Try the butter cake (take one home and serve it warmed up), cringle (a pastry), Danish rye bread, almond cookies (just like my grandmother used to make!) etc. Regular breads are good too. Ask about special cakes for special occasions.
Highly recommended. One of the best places for foodies on the mid-island.
Friends of ours shop there when they pass by as he is Danish and likes the Wienerbrot. The last one they bought was hard and almost completely dry, causing them great disappointment. All too often the standards of these small bakeries slip when they don't have the turnover a busier place has. Their refusal to throw out a loaf that was a few days old cost them two customers, us and the Danish friend.
